Our History

Bear Creek UMCBear Creek United Methodist Church is a congregation of Christian believers in the Houston Southwest District of the Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Dr. Burt Palmer is the current Senior Minister, and its previous senior ministers have included Rev. Dow Harleston, Rev. Randy Mullikin, Rev. Bob Long, Dr. Jack Albright, Dr. Pat Sparks, and Dr. Allison Cambre.

Originally established in 1977, Bear Creek was recognized as the fastest growing United Methodist congregation in the United States during the early 1980s. The Room to Grow program provided significant support for the congregation as the Holy Spirit moved in the hearts and lives of people within the community, and in the 1990s the congregation was able to return these blessings by becoming the largest Room to Grow contributor. With education, worship, and other facilities to support emergency relief and recreational activities, God has blessed this congregation and given it a mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and to be a beacon for Christ in the 21st century.

We encourage every person to visit and find a place for worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and mission. There are a variety of worship services in a variety of styles; dozens of Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults; Disciple Bible Studies, “Wesley Groups,” and other small groups to study the Word and grow in grace with God and one another; ministry opportunities within the church; and mission opportunities in our community and around the world. Truly God is good! We have been given such wonderful opportunities to complete our Creator’s purposes for our lives. Now we have only to say “yes.”

Come be a part of the body of Christ here at Bear Creek United Methodist Church.
