Bear Creek United Methodist Church School has been a leading preschool in our community for over 25 years, and yet we feel brand new again. We have recently renovated by installing new counters and sinks in the classrooms and completely replaced our hall restrooms. We also have replaced most of the furniture in our classrooms. Bear Creek is a warm and nurturing environment where each child loved and nurtured, enjoys hands-on experiences and is encouraged and stimulated to love to learn.Feel free to drop by for a tour of the school, or call the director, Laurie Mattingly at 281-463-2969 for more information.
Introducing Z TROOP… just for adults! Did you know that we need a team of adult volunteers to help each and every time children have program on our campus? At BCUMC we have a wonderful paid staff that works hard throughout the week to assist with planning, communicating, training, and supervising programs. But the reality is that we need at least one adult for every 5 children at a program. Many of these jobs must be filled by volunteers or the program cannot happen. In 2009, every parent will be asked to volunteer at least 7 times for any of our KidZone Programs. This could include handing out flyers at Z Street, chaperoning on Adventure Days, rocking babies in the nursery, volunteering at VBS, setting up tables and chairs, and much more!!!!! Some of these jobs require a very small time commitment, others require more.

Safe Sanctuary is a Safe Sanctuary training is required for all adults working with children under the age of 18.Throughout the gospels, Jesus provides teachings on providing a peaceable kingdom for all of God's people, including our most precious gifts, our children and youth (Matthew 5:9, Luke 18:15-17). The peaceable kingdom begins with sanctuary. Scriptures provide examples of how sanctuary is to be a community of protective nurture and harmony (Psalms 20:1-2, 27:4-5). As Christians, we are called to create a safe sanctuary in our churches. They must be holy, safe, and protective communities for all of God's children, regardless of age or ability. The purpose of this policy is to address the safety of our children and youth at all local churches, and at District or Annual Conference sponsored events. Bear Creek United Methodist Church recognizes the need to have a formal, written policy with procedures in place (1) to help prevent the opportunity for the occurrence and/or the appearance of abuse of children and youth and (2) to help protect workers from false accusations and/or suspicions. The following policy and procedures are not based on a lack of trust in workers, but are intended to protect our preschoolers, children, youth, workers, employees, volunteers and the entire church body. Careful and confidential documentation is essential to show compliance with policies, to verify information as needed, and to have an accurate record in the case of an incident.Safe Sanctuary certification renewal is required every two years. For more information please contact the church office at 281-463-2330. Training is held in the Family Life Center, Room 102 unless otherwise noted. Please review our Safe Sanctuary Policy and complete Appendix C, D and G prior to attending a training session.
