Missions Committee Opportunities
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21
The Missions Committee is committed to providing multiple opportunities for all people of BCUMC to grow in their discipleship and faith as we reach out to share the love of Christ by serving our community and the world. Join us as we put our faith in action and make connections with our many local and global projects.
Saturday, November 23: Day of Thanks & Giving
Last Sunday to pluck a turkey’s tail feathers
Have you plucked a turkey’s tail feather? If not, please pluck generously! Sunday, November 10, is the last Sunday this year that paper turkeys are on display in the Bear Creek UMC Courtyard. Each tail feather lists items to purchase for Thanksgiving food baskets, which will be distributed to families in need. Please deposit your food donations in the red bins around the church campus by Sunday, November 17.
The Missions Committee will also add fresh produce and turkey gift cards to each food box. If you would like to make a monetary donation to help with these costs, please make your check payable to BCUMC with “Missions” in the memo line and place in the offering plate.
The baskets will be packed on A Day of “Thanks & Giving” on Saturday, November 23, 10:30am to 1:30pm, in the Family Life Center Gym. The Missions Committee sponsors this special day for our church members to come together, celebrate, and give “thanks” for our many blessings by “giving” to others.
Additional activities planned for A Day of “Thanks & Giving” include assembling Christmas gift bags for senior citizens and Christmas stockings for needy children. United Methodist Men will fire up their pit and provide lunch for all volunteers.
Outerwear collection deadline only a week away
As part of Bear Creek UMC’s Day of “Thanks & Giving”, the Missions Committee is collecting gently-used sweaters, sweats, jackets and coats in infant through adult sizes. Please place outerwear in the red bins around the Bear Creek UMC campus by Sunday, November 17.
The committee will offer its “clients” a chance to select a coat or jacket for their children and themselves when they claim a Thanksgiving food box. Please check your closets and make someone’s winter more comfortable.
Sunday, December 15: Angel Tree Christmas Party
Take a kit, stitch a keepsake
Do you sew? Your skill is needed to stitch 150 stockings, which will be given to Angel Tree children and caregivers at their Christmas party in December.
Kits containing materials and instructions for six stockings are available in the church office. The deadline to return completed stockings is Sunday, December 1.
Your help is greatly appreciated. For more information, please contact Jamie Aman at 832.316.8563.
With thanks from the Missions Committee . . .
On behalf of the Missions Committee, a tremendous “thank you” to all volunteers who gave their time and talents on Saturday, April 27. We also appreciate your monetary support and donations of the clothes and other items for our projects.
Thanks to your generosity, so much was accomplished. We packed more than 300 Activity Bags for the patients at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus and 135 Birthday in a Bags for children served by Gracewood and Westside Homeless Partnership. One hundred twenty-five single mothers living at Gracewood and The Mission of Yahweh and those from the families served by Westside will each receive a special Mother’s Day Bag of Love. Blankets were made for Project Linus and the Veteran’s Fisher House.
With its car wash, our Youth Group raised $551 to buy a wheelchair battery and continue its wheelchair ramp ministry. Many areas of the BCUMC campus received a fresh coat of paint. The United Methodist Women packed UMCOR school kits. Volunteers transformed the Family Life Center kitchen into a bakery, making cookies which were delivered to Gracewood as well as other goodies for the May 4th bake sale our church sponsored at Boys & Girls Country. There were lots of smiles as children from 68 families shopped for new clothes in the Children’s Clothes Closet. Special thanks to the United Methodist Men for inviting these families to join our volunteers for the wonderful lunch they provided.
Last Sunday more than 300 Man on the Street Bags were picked up by our members. These bags contain food and water and are meant to be given to the those in need who you may encounter on the street.
Please know, once again, how very much your continued and generous support to Missions is appreciated.
Chair, Missions Committee
The Missions Committee would like to thank those who continue to financially support Missions on a regular basis; those who continue to be involved on a regular basis; and those who are able to help when they can.
