The missions committee works continuously to raise awareness of local, regional and global missional efforts of The United Methodist Church. We are also committed to providing multiple opportunities for all people of Bear Creek UMC – members and guests alike – to grow in their discipleship and understanding of faith through service in a variety of ways. We seek to help Christians gain an increased awareness and understanding of God through exposure to all peoples of the world, their cultures and histories.
Bear Creek UMC has recently established a new food bank partnership for serving our community. The Father's Heart Church is an evangelical, charismatic, interdenominational church located at 4512-D Highway 6 North, at the east end of the strip shopping center that shares a parking lot with the former Luby's Cafeteria. Their leader is Rev. Richard Wyatt. The Father's Heart Faith Pantry is open to all needy families in the area. Every Wednesday, they serve a meal and hand out food items that BCUMC and others contribute, keeping a record of all recipients in order to serve them in additional ways as opportunities arise. Under the leadership of Don Driggs, BCUMC contributes by collecting both money and individual food items, either at the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings or in the church office at other times. If you wish to continue to give or begin to give food, it helps Don and the pantry if you will select from the following list and observe the size limitations:
Donations for May, 2010:
Piece Makers Piece Makers is a quilting for charity group that makes and distributes quilts and blankets to people in need. Piece Makers meets on the third Saturday of each month in the Wesley Building. Piece Makers make quilts, blankets, and afghans for charity. Most items are donated to children through Project Linus, but donations are also made on an individual need basis and to other groups. Emphasis is placed on fellowship, learning, and sharing ideas. Participation does not require sewing skills as there are many opportunities to help. All assistance is appreciated. Projects can also be completed at home without attending meetings. All quilters are welcome! Saturday in Service Every September people of all ages get involved in service to our local community. Choose from a variety of service activities for individuals, families and groups. This is for everyone! Angel Tree In November we collect Christmas gifts for children of incarcerated persons. On December 14, 2008, the day of our community Block Party, we have a pre-party especially designed for everyone involved in Angel Tree. Home Repair Throughout the year, members of our congregation take on minor repair projects to assist those who would otherwise not be able to make necessary home repairs. Some of our projects have included building wheelchair ramps, porch repair, door and window repair, debris removal following a storm.
