Prayer Ministries

Below you will find a numerous ways Bear Creek UMC is actively encouraging prayer along with a number of resources to enable and enhance your prayer life.

Prayer Room

The Prayer Room is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and can be found in the Wesley building, Room 2 (across the parking lot from the Family Life Center). We invite you to come meet with God and unleash His power into your life, community, and to the ends of the earth. Within this serene setting there are 12 prayer stations, music, books, comfortable chairs, a finger labyrinth and a kneeler to enhance your prayer time. Monday through Thursday from 9am to 5pm and Friday from 9am to 1pm, call 281-463-2330 for the access code; after hours, call 832-755-2954.

Prayer Chain

Prayer Outreach

Church members who have prayer requests listed on the weekly Connecting with Christ prayer page will be contacted through email, phone, or postcard. If you are interested in helping with this specific area of ministry, please contact the Prayer Ministry or call the church office at 281.463.2330.

Prayer Vigils

Prayer vigils are offered on the church grounds as well as offsite throughout the year to encourage us to focus on and devote time to God (i.e. Good Friday, National Day of Prayer, Global Day of Prayer and others). If desired, prayer guides are provided to enrich your prayer experience. The Labyrinth is often set up for use in prayer. A labyrinth is an ancient prayer tool and is meant to be walked through mentally and spiritually — think of it as prayer walking.

Fasting and Prayer

Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Join Bear Creek United Methodist Church in our churchwide fast (which means to sacrifice by abstaining from something) every 3rd Monday of the month. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life. Use this time to focus your mind on God and His love for you; praise Him and talk to Him. Go to links below or visit the Welcome Center for important information on fasting and prayer.

Prayer Quilts and Shawls

Prayer quilts and shawls are given as a tangible expression of God’s power and love to traumatized children and adults who are sick or injured, have a critically ill parent, have experienced a death in the family, or whose family is in crisis, to remind them that they are being lifted up in prayer and that God is surrounding them with a “blanket” of love. These quilts and shawls are gifts that have been blessed with prayers of healing, comfort, and peace for the recipients and their families. As in Acts 19:12, we believe God’s healing power goes with these items to accomplish His work. If you’d like to help or would like a prayer quilt for yourself or someone you love, contact Linda Holmes at 281-550-3882; for shawls contact Terry Bush at 281-463-6869.
