Summer Activities at Bear Creek

Save the dates for Summer 2008!  
To register for a particular KidZone Summer 2008 event, please click on the link at the bottom of this page, complete the form and return with payment to the drop box outside the gym office or mail to 16000 Rippling Water Drive, Houston, Texas 77084. Registration is not considered complete until payment is received with a completed registration form.  For all summer camps, registration deadline is 7 days prior to the first day of camp. Make checks payable to BCUMC. Please note that grade is the grade the child just completed, and age is the child's age as of September 1, 2007. Here is what is scheduled so far:

KidZone Summer Newsletter

Summer Blast!

10:00am - Noon, Tuesday, June 3 
Summer Blast is a time for kidz to celebrate the beginning of summer. Activities include a moonwalk, games, prizes and much more! Feel free to come and go as you please. You will be able to register for our summer programs and there will be representatives from most summer programs and camps available to answer questions. There is no charge to attend and no registration is required. Held in the gym, for kidz of all ages. Kidz must be accompanied by an adult.     
          
Book Fair
It is time for our annual Book Fair. New books for you and for our church!
      9:00am to 12:30pm, Sunday, June 1
    10:00am - Noon, Tuesday, June 3
      9:00am - 1:30pm, Thursday, June 5
      9:00am - 12:30pm, Sunday, June 8

Step into Summer Reading Program

    Preschool through Kindergarten
    Each Monday from June 9 to July 28
Story time is held in the Library on Mondays from 10:00 - 10:45am.  Stories will be read to the children and they can check out books. Children will be rewarded with a sticker for every five books they read.
    
Elementary Summer Reading
    1st - 5th Grades
    Each Monday from June 9 to July 28

Elementary kidz are rewarded for the number of minutes they spend reading during the summer. Come to the Summer Blast on June 3rd to receive a reading tracker and check out books for the reading program. Volunteers will be in the library to validate trackers and award prizes three times throughout each week: Mondays from 11:00am - Noon, Thursdays between 9:00 and 11:00am, and Sunday mornings between worship services.

Camp BC

All camps are $10 per child for children 3 years through 5th Grade.

June 10 - Nature Camp
(registration deadline is June 3)
Explore the great outdoors and discover how God perfectly planned our environment. Make sure to wear sunscreen!

June 17 - Inventors Camp (registration deadline is June 10)
How does that work? What makes it move? These questions and more are answsered as you explore God's wonderful world of inventions.

June 24 - History Camp (registration deadline is June 17)
God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, but people sure have lived differently throughout the years! Learn how boys and girls have lived in days of old and experiment with things like making candles and butter!

July 1 - Art Camp (registration deadline is June 24)
Let your creative self shine. This camp will explore great artists and their work with lots of hands-on activities. From clay to paint, Kidz are sure to discover a favorite medium.

July 22 - Cooking Camp (registration deadline is July 15)
Young chefs unite! This is your opportunity to shine in the kitchen. Come learn how to prepare yummy recipes that you can make for your family.

July 29 - Woodworking Camp (registration deadline is July 22)
Jesus was a carpenter and you can be too! This camp will teach basic woodworking skills to even the youngest campers.

Camp AD (Adventure Days)
Journey with your friends on exciting field trips. We will need one adult chaperone for every six children, so parents please volunteer if you can by indicating it on the registration form. Space is limited as most trips involve travel on a chartered bus.  Due to the summer heat, it is imperative that every child bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Children must wear comfortable walking shoes and their KidZone t-shirt (provided when you register for Camp BC or Camp AD).

June 12, Downtown Express - $20 per child for 3rd - 5th Graders
Meet at the METRO bus depot at Highway 6 and I-10 at 8:30am, returning at 3pm. Discover the treasures of downtown Houston as we tour the tunnel system, Sam Houston Historical Park and buildings both tall and small! We will ride a METRO bus and the light rail so kidz can learn about how to get around Houston without a car. We will eat lunch at a food court in the tunnel system. The $20 registration covers transportation and tour fees. Please bring $10 cash for lunch (chaperones will carry the money for the kidz). Downtown Express is limited to 15 children, so sign up early!

June 26, Huntsville - $20 per child for 1st - 5th Graders
Bus departs Bear Creek UMC at 8:30am, returning at 4:30pm. Explore Texas history as we travel to Huntsville to see the tallest statue in the world and visit the Sam Houston museum. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle for our picnic at the Huntsville state park. After lunch we will go on a nature walk through the park.

July 24, AD Players - $20 per child for 1st - 5th Graders
Bus departs Bear Creek UMC at 9:15am, returning at 3:00pm. We'll head into Houston to see the AD Players' production of Sampson, then have lunch and a nature walk at the Houston Arboretum. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle.

Matt Musil's Hoops for Kids Basketball Camp
June 20 & 21 for 1st - 4th graders (registration deadline is June 13) and June 27 & 28 for 5th - 8th graders (registration deadline is June 20); Cost is $25 per child. Hoops is a fun filled 2-day camp focusing on fundamentals, including shooting, dribbling, passing and teamwork. Guest clinicians are featured. The camp format rotates players through a series of indoor and outdoor stations, each designed to hone a specific skill. All equipment is provided. Cost inlcudes snacks, lunch, drinks and a t-shirt. Participants shoud wear shorts, a t-shirt and basketball shoes.

Set Design and Art Camp
July 7 - 11; $25 per child for 1st - 8th Graders, 9am - Noon.
Learn a variety of techniques, from backdrop painting to paper mache. Make props and sets for upcoming events including KidzROCK musicals and Vacation Bible School. Wear clothes that can get messy!

All-N-One Elementary Sports Camp
July 14 -18: $55 per child for 1st - 5th Graders, 9am - Noon. Registration deadline is July 7.
This camp is conducted by guest athletes from the University of Houston. Campers will experience team building, leadership skills, motivation and character building through creative, adventurous and awesome recreactional games and sports. Cost includes drinks, snacks and a t-shirt. Wear athletic shoes, shorts and a t-shirt.

Camp Lakeview District Camp
July 14 - 18; $250 per camper for 4th - 12th Graders includes bus transportation. Installment payments are welcome and some scholarships are available. Registration is due by April 15. This is an overnight camp located in Palestine, TX. One adult is required for every six children who attend camp, so parents please consider volunteering to be a camp counselor and help make a difference in the lives of many children. We will not accept camper registration without the proper adult supervision.

All-N-One Cheerleading Camp
July 28 - August 1; $55 per child for KG - 5th Grades. (Registraition deadline is July 21). A great camp for beginning and intermediate cheerleaders. Lots of cheers and chants will be taught and featured in an end-of-the-week performance at the mini tournament on Friday.

All-N-One Indoor Flag Football Camp
July 28 - August 1; $55 per child for KG - 5th Grades. (Registraition deadline is July 21). This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of football. We will focus on playing quarterback, running back and wide receiver. Players will showcase their new skills at a mini tournament on Friday.

Vacation Bible School
August 4 - 7; $20 per child ($60 max per family) for kidz 4 years through 5th Grade by September 1, 2007.
